HBS Club of Pittsburgh

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Fellow Alums,

I hope you all are having a great summer.  I’ve enjoyed my two years as President of the Club and I’m looking forward to building upon the success we have achieved as an alumni organization in the past year.  I hope that the HBSCP continues to be a source of intellectual stimulation, social camaraderie, and a value-added and fun place to be engaged.  On that note, I welcome any suggestions or feedback from members on potential events or other opportunities for improvement.  Please do not hesitate to reach out at any time.

This past year’s in-person events in the fall included a well-attended alumni dinner at Bar Marco, Global Networking Night at Wigle Whisky featuring a conversation with the founders, and, of course, Dr. Stu Hoffman’s Annual Economic Forecast.  In the spring, the Club held two significant events.  First, a discussion with Corey O’Connor, Allegheny County Controller, on the future of Pittsburgh drew over a hundred alumni and guests.  Second, a conversation with prominent Pittsburgh company founders on the city’s leadership role and future in its rapidly growing robotics cluster was well attended.

For the 2025-26 program year, our Board of Governors has decided to again grant Membership at no cost to all area alumni who formally register on our website,  www.hbspittsburgh.com, or have registered for a recent Club event. This means you are a Member of the HBS Club of Pittsburgh with all its privileges, with no dues payment for 2025-26, and will receive Member discounts for all priced events.  Enter www.hbspittsburgh.com in your web browser and click on “Join” to register.

Events this coming year will be kicked off again with a dinner (cash bar) on September 25th at the highly regarded Bar Marco in the Strip District, which is discounted for all Member alums. Bar Marco has been called one of Pittsburgh’s “most essential restaurants” and has earned a spot on Pittsburgh Magazine’s Best Restaurants list almost every year since 2013. Members pay $25 (guests of members pay $50), representing a substantial discount on the dinner cost.  This is followed by an alumni “happy hour” on HBS’ Global Networking Night on October 22nd at Helltown Brewery, where we’ll hear from the owner about his journey into acquiring brewery businesses, operating in a regulated industry, and responding to evolving consumer trends.  Finally, we plan to hear again from PNC Chief Economist Stu Hoffman on December 11th at the AHYP Club to discuss the state of the economy this year and what to expect in 2026.  Stu’s talk is always well attended for his down-to-earth assessment of the financial world we live in.  Click here to register for one or all of these events on our website.

More events are being planned for the new year, and we will let you know as they are confirmed!  Although we may deviate opportunistically based on current events and developments at Harvard (e.g., the event we hosted with Bill Ackman last year), we intend to host two content-focused events in the spring going forward.  One will focus on business and economics, and the other will be more geared towards civic organizations and non-profits (e.g., the Robotics Founders event and the City Controller event this Spring).

We hope to see you at one of our events! And if you have any questions about events, please contact us at events.hbspittsburgh.club@gmail.com
