A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

Greetings from the Harvard Business School Club of Pittsburgh. It’s been a tough couple of years for any alumni  organization to serve its constituency.     But we have successfully navigated through shifting pandemic conditions by taking all appropriate health precautions.  We will continue to do so while offering interesting and thought-provoking programming, both live and virtual.

This past year’s in-person events included Walnut Capital’s President Todd Reidbord review of Pittsburgh’s burgeoning real estate market, Penguins COO Kevin Acklin speaking on guiding the Penguin’s operation through Covid, Richard Piacentini, President and CEO of the Phipps Conservatory explaining the use of the “regenerative thinking” business approach to managing this organization in challenging times, a pizza party at an outdoor shelter in Schenley Park and, of course, Dr. Stu Hoffman’s fabulous financial forecast.

For the upcoming year, recognizing that alumni have dealt with the pandemic in different ways, our Board of Governors has decided to grant Membership for the 2022-23 Program Year to all area alumni who formally register here on our Member Registration page.  This means is that you are a Member of the HBS Club of Pittsburgh with all its privileges with no dues payment for 2022-23 and will receive Member discounts for all priced events.

Events this coming year will be kicked off with a dinner (cash bar) at the highly regarded Bar Marco in the Strip District which is discounted for all alums registering as a Member on our website. Bar Marco is rated in 2022 as one of Pittsburgh’s top restaurants by Pittsburgh Magazine’s dining critic, Hal Klein. Members pay $25 (Members’ guests pay $50), representing a substantial discount on the cost of the dinner.  That’s right, as a registered Member of the HBSCP, you can join fellow alums for a gourmet dinner at a reduced cost on September 22 (registration/payment for the dinner also required online and proof of vaccination required at the door).

Additional events during the year, which may have a nominal fee to offset out-of-pocket expenses, will include a series of business talks by Pittsburgh entrepreneurs and business leaders as well as occasional “Happy Hours” at fine local establishments (Alums cover drinks, Club covers appetizers). Our first business talk will be a perspective of the rapidly growing Pittsburgh technology ecosystem from Audrey Russo, President and CEO of the Pittsburgh Technology Council (October).  Specific upcoming events in the fall and winter include a tour and business talk at Millie’s Ice Cream (November), Dr. Hoffman’s outlook for 2023 (December), and a tour of the new Moonshot Museum and business talk on Astrobotic Technology’s role in the America’s return to the moon (January).   Currently planned Happy Hours include the PA Market in the Strip District (October), the Oaklander near Pitt (February), and a tour of Bicycle Heaven (with wine and cheese) on the North Shore (February).  And, we are planning for a scotch tasting event in January.  More events are in the works for spring 2023.
