HBS Club of Pittsburgh
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Fellow Alums,
I hope you all are having a great summer. I’ve enjoyed my first year as President of the Club and I’m looking forward to building upon the success we have achieved as an alumni organization in the past year. It is my hope that the HBSCP continues to be a source of intellectual stimulation, social camaraderie, and a value-added and fun place to be engaged. On that note, I welcome any suggestions or feedback from members on potential events or other opportunities for improvement. Please do not hesitate to reach out anytime.
This past year’s in-person events included a well-attended alumni dinner at Bar Marco, Dr. Stu Hoffman’s Annual Economic Forecast, a tour and talk at CMU’s Robotics Institute and a visit to the CMU spinoff company developing autonomous aerospace drone technology, Near Earth Autonomy. Along the way, alums enjoyed fall and spring happy hours at local pubs.
For the 2024-25 program year, our Board of Governors has decided to again grant Membership at no cost to all area alumni who formally register on our website, www.hbspittsburgh.com. This means you are a member of the HBS Club of Pittsburgh with all its privileges with no dues payment for 2024-25 and will receive member discounts for all priced events. Enter www.hbspittsburgh.com in your web browser and click on “Join” to register.
Events this coming year will be kicked off again with a dinner (cash bar) at the highly regarded Bar Marco in the Strip District which is discounted for all member alums. Bar Marco has been called one of Pittsburgh’s "most essential restaurants" and has earned a spot on Pittsburgh Magazine’s Best Restaurants list almost every year since 2013. Members pay $25 (Members’ guests pay $50), representing a substantial discount on the cost of the dinner. That’s right, as a member of the HBSCP, you can join fellow alums for a gourmet dinner at a reduced cost on September 18th (online registration/payment for the dinner required). Click on “Events” to find the Bar Marco dinner.
Additional events during the year, which may have a nominal fee to offset out-of-pocket expenses, will include business talks and cultural events as well as occasional “Happy Hours” at fine local establishments (Alums cover drinks, Club covers appetizers). Our first happy hour will be on October 22nd. And we plan to hear again from PNC Chief Economist Stu Hoffman on December 18th at the AHYP Club to explain all that happened in this year’s economy and what to expect in 2025. Stu’s talk is always well attended for his down-to-earth assessment of the financial world we live in. More events are being planned for 2024-25 and we will let you know as they are confirmed.
We hope to see you at one of our events! And if you have any questions about events, please contact us at events.hbspittsburgh.club@gmail.com
