Time & Location

Mar 21, 2024, 5:00 PM – 7:15 PM

CMU Robotics Institute, 5000 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213, USA

About the event

Even when robotics technologies were relatively primitive, their potential role in boosting the productivity and competitiveness of the United States was foreseen in the evolving global marketplace.

The Robotics Institute at Carnegie Mellon University was established in 1979 to conduct basic and applied research in robotics technologies relevant to industrial and societal tasks. Seeking to combine the practical and the theoretical, the Robotics Institute has diversified its efforts and approaches to robotics science while retaining its original goal of realizing the potential of the robotics field. The facility includes approximately 100,000 square feet at the main Pittsburgh campus.

The HBS Club of Pittsburgh has the opportunity to visit the main research facility on campus for a talk about latest developments in robotics with an emphasis on the merging of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) by the Institute's Director, Matthew Johnson-Roberson.   Professor Johnson-Roberson has arranged for our alums a short walking tour of several of the Institute's laboratories to see the amazing work they are doing within minutes of Forbes Avenue.

The event will open at 5:00 pm with light refreshments and the talk will begin at 5:30 pm.  Following Q&A, there will be a walking tour starting at 6:15 pm.  Everything should wrap by around 7:00 pm.

Parking Update:  We have found  a parking lot called "Morewood Gardens," right across the street from CMU and a 4-5 minute walk......which is free starting at 5pm!  This is the best option.  There are other options but none as close and none as "free" and a logistics note will be sent to registered attendees closer to the event.

Due to space constraints the number of attendees will be limited.  Tickets to cover expenses are $10 for HBSCP Members and their guests.  All others pay $20.  Registration closes March 19th at 5:00 pm.
