About the event

Pittsburgh-based Astrobotic's Peregrine lunar lander left their headquarters on the North Shore and is now headed to test facilities before its first launch to the Moon in early 2023. Slated to be the first commercial lunar lander to ever soft land on the Moon, the space robotics company's Peregrine is carrying payloads from NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services initiative.  Astrobotic calls itself a lunar logistics company which provides end-to-end delivery services for payloads to the Moon.

The new Moonshot Museum, which opened in October 2022, partnered with Astrobotic at the headquarters and features a wall of glass through which visitors watch real lunar landers being built and readied to fly to the Moon. This unprecedented visibility plugs guests into the real-time work of space through immersive simulated mission experiences, real space industry problem-solving, and direct access to Pittsburgh space professionals.

The HBS Club of Pittsburgh offers this unique behind the scenes visit to a new center of space exploration and commercialization right here in Pittsburgh. Dan Hendrickson, Astrobotic VP of Business Development will tell us about the Peregrine Mission and how the business of space has become good business for the company and for Pittsburgh's growing space economy.  Sam Moore, the Moonshot Museum’s Executive Director will take our alumni group through the story behind the museum and its mission in America's return to the moon. The museum itself will be available for a full walkthrough during the event.

The Moonshot Museum in-person event, which will be held on January 18 at the Moonshot Museum adjacent to Astrobotic, starts at 5:00pm and last until about 7:00 pm (program will begin at 5:30pm but come before to walk about the museum!).  Light refreshments will be available.
