Thank you for visiting the website of the Harvard Business School Association of Pittsburgh (HBSAP). The HBSAP has been organized as an HBS alumni club for more than 40 years and serves over 300 alums in the Southwestern Pennsylvania area.  In 2016 -17, our fourth year of a revitalized alumni community, we achieved membership of 53 alums, representing nearly 20% of the HBS MBA and Executive Program alumni in the Pittsburgh area.  

The HBSAP is part of a global clubs network of HBS alumni comprised of more than 100 clubs in over 50 countries. The Club’s purpose is to:

  • Advance the mutual welfare of Harvard Business School and its alumni
  • Provide opportunities for alumni to remain connected to the School and each other
  • Encourage life-long learning, intellectual enrichment, career development, community service, and social events through a variety programs and events
  • Provide opportunities for alumni to meet and serve as advocates, helping to promote and elevate the stature of the School within the community through Club programming
  • Attract the world’s most talented individuals to Harvard Business School

7:00 PM to 11:00 PM Wed 17 Jan 2018 Featured Event
Join fellow HBS alumni for what Pittsburgh Magazine calls a Best of the ‘Burgh Experience:     The Pittsburgh Banjo Club’s Wednesday practice session.  We will gather at the Elks Lodge on the North Side to enjoy and sing along with the banjo players as they celebrate the group’s 30th anniversary.  This local treasure has donated over $140,000 to charity in its history as it seeks to keep the music of the banjo alive.  Doors open at 7:00pm with complimentary food and a cash bar. The band rehearses from 8:00 – 11:00 pm.  Stay as long as you like!

HBS alums took home the “gold,” winning first place in the trivia contest in 2015, standing tall against many of Pittsburgh’s toughest trivia teams.  Join us again at the Beer Hive Pub located in the Strip District as HBS Association of Pittsburgh seeks to become the Michael Phelps of Pittsburgh trivia by going after our second gold! Teams form at 7:00 pm and the quizzing begins at 7:30 pm.  What a chance to put all that useless knowledge we have to work for glory and fame!  You buy your own drafts ($3) and HBSAP will cover a couple of rounds of wings and snacks to fuel the brain cells that contain useless knowledge!

The Clemente Museum is housed in historic Engine House 25, located in the revitalized Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh. Engine House 25 has been meticulously renovated to showcase the world’s largest exhibited collection of baseball artifacts, works of art, literature, photographs, memorabilia, and related materials which focus on Roberto Clemente, his teammates, his personal life, and his humanitarian causes.  We will be guided by a museum docent who will take us through the professional baseball career of Roberto Clemente using the extensive collection housed at Engine House 25. When the final date is selected, arrivals will start at 5:00 pm and the tour will begin at 5:30 pm.

5:00 PM to 7:30 PM Thu 01 Mar 2018 Featured Event
Founded in 1989, Global Links is a medical relief and development organization dedicated to supporting health improvement initiatives in resource-poor communities and promoting environmental stewardship in the US healthcare system.  The organization partners with healthcare facilities throughout the Mid-Atlantic to collect usable surplus medical supplies and redirects them throughout the Western Hemisphere.  Arrivals begin at 5:00 pm, we will tour the organization’s headquarters/operations and enjoy refreshments while sorting medical supplies for deployment.  This is a free event for all alums and their guests.

Pittsburgh’s success in harnessing local educational institutions to attract tech employers is now a case study for transforming a city’s economy.  When referring to Uber’s decision to locate its Advanced Technologies Center and develop self-driving cars in Pittsburgh, Mayor Peduto said, “You can either put up red tape or roll out the red carpet. If you want to be a 21st-century laboratory for technology, you put out the carpet." Now Uber has graciously agreed to roll out the red carpet for the HBSAP.  Details of this exclusive HBSAP event forthcoming.
